ABOUT PRINCES MALL
Formerly known as The Waverley Shopping Centre and prior to that as Waverley Market, the Mall opened in November 1984 and was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth 11 on 25th July 1985. It is rumored that during the opening of the Mall the Queen travelled on an escalator for the first time.
The Mall was originally developed by the City of Edinburgh Council in space that had been used for many years as a thriving Flower and fresh fruit market hence its first name as Waverley Market. The first owners Speciality Shops, sold the Mall to Haslemere Estates in 1998 who embarked on a refurbishment programme to modernise the Mall.
It is however under the current owners since May 2004, Premier Property Group, the property of Sir David Murray's Murray International Holdings, that Princes Mall has been restored to the forefront of quality shopping in the capital. Newly configured, the colours and revised layout make the most of the originally natural light atrium areas whilst allowing the development of larger more elegant retail units. The only shopping centre on Princes Street, it still retains it ability to provide that space for relaxation with a dedicated food court and rooftop coffee house together with a large selection of quality fashion outlets.
